When i returned from Malawi in 2008 it made me relook at life and I made the decision it was my time to ‘start giving back.’
I began by volunteering 1 day per week at a Special Educational Needs School in Manchester, specialising in Autism in. My days were full of incredibly inspiring work and I felt like I had finally found passion a job role that i could be passionate about.
Since 2009 I have worked as a support worker for Time Specialist Support supporting children and young adults with autism and other learning difficulties across Manchester. Activities include visiting the countryside, getting outside and other life sills.
In 2015 I started the PGCE in Special Educational Needs Teaching (Post-16 and FE) at Sheffield Hallam University – my placement was based at Manchester College. I have learnt so much about a classroom environment over my first semester there.
Working with children and young adults with Autism and observing the professionals and care workers who help them develop their life skills has taught me so much about myself. I feel so privileged to have met so many incredible children and adults with additional needs. I have the best job in the world.
I am so fortunate that Aukids have teamed up with #RunMalawi as my sponsor for the teams T-shirts.
